About the designer

CHARINI

Charini Suriyage has made a mark for herself in the Fashion arena by being the first Sri Lankan to take part at the London Fashion week. She read for her bachelors at the university of Moratuwa specializing in fashion and then read for her Masters at London College of Fashion in design management and has been recognized and awarded at Sri Lankan and international competitions.

Combining her Sri Lankan heritage with modern design, her couture and ready to wear brand, was launched at Colombo Fashion Week in 2008. Moving on to the international fashion arena Charini launched her lingerie brand CHARINI at London fashion week in 2011. Charini has continuously participated at the London Fashion Week Esthetica platform with her sustainable lingerie brand which was retailed with online retailers ASOS and YOOX and boutique retailers in the Uk.

She started her career with MAS holdings, one of Asia’s largest apparel manufacturing companies where she worked for 13 years and was heading design for their intimates cluster.

She also took part in the ethical fashion show during Berlin fashion week and Mode city Paris and also is a regular at Colombo fashion week for the past 15 years.

As a part of our knowledge sharing program we work alongside traditional Srilankan craft communities to introduce a contemporary take on traditional crafts in our designs.

Reuse

Being based in Srilanka which is a clothing manufacturing hub gives us the opportunity to Upclycling high quality surplus fabrics from garment factories reducing the C foot print of the sourcing process .

Recycle

We strive to use fabrics made out of recycled fishing nets to plastic water bottles in our collections ,

Reduce

Reducing waste during the design and manufacturing process. Smart pattern cutting techniques to maximize the use of fabric yardage .

Re purpose

Bring a new life to a clothing item you have used , maybe even because it was a sentimental value. We see beyond the existing garment and convert it to something you want to wear with pride.
